Obituary for Christine Justice
Christine “Thacker” Justice, 90 of Mt. Sterling, KY passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 after several months of illness. A native of Pike County, KY, she devoted her whole life to helping and caring for others. She was a loyal loving wife and mother, a retired elementary school teacher, a hospital auxiliary volunteer, and an active member of the Rolling Hills Church of Christ.
Born January 25, 1927, Christine was one of the late Ballard and Olva Belcher Thacker’s six children. Three brothers pre-deceased her - Willie Lavern, Elray, and Kenneth Thacker. Surviving are her special twin sister, Ernestine Williamson of Ashland, Kentucky, and a brother Kermit (and wife Bonnie) Thacker of Ocala, Florida.
Christine married the late Fred G. Justice on April 3, 1953. Through their 41-year marriage were born two daughters and one grandson: Ardith Daniel of Jeffersonville, KY, Diann Donaldson (and husband David) of Mt. Sterling, KY, and David Lee Daniel, Jr. of Mt. Sterling, KY.
Also surviving are the families of her husband’s five children: the late Ernestine Hinton, Betty Lee Tanner, and John W Justice, along with two other daughters: Mary Lou Cool of Pikeville, KY and Kathryn Nell Slone of Lexington, KY.
In addition to her immediate family, Christine leaves behind one aunt, Lenora Thompson of Cattlettsburg, KY plus several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Even as a young child, Christine knew she wanted to be a school teacher. She began teaching in 1946 in a rural one-room school. She went on to teach a total of 22 years in Pike County before moving to Montgomery County in 1974 where she taught another 4 years prior to retiring in 1978.
In her retirement and later years in life, Christine stayed active. Throughout the community and the church, she was well-known for such traits as: the devoted caretaker of her elderly husband and mother; a quilt maker; sending cards and poems; a giver of books, and always as a wonderful friend.
A prior visitation in Mt. Sterling was at the Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Monday, April 10, 2017 & Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Arrangements by the Taul Funeral Home of Mt.Sterling, KY.
April 12, 2017, the family will accept friends at the Thacker Memorial Chapel, in Pikeville, KY, Wednesday at 1PM, followed by the funeral at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in the Johnson Memorial Park in Pikeville. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville, KY
